Frequently Asked Questions

ACS have signed a franchise agreement to run a Girls' 6th Form College with Barnet College.

1.    Where will the 6th Form be held?
From September 2011, the 6th Form will be held in our premises on Montagu Road. 

2.    Do you have any Labs or Interactive whiteboards?
We are planning to build a Science lab in the summer of 2013. An IT lab already exists on the premises. Most of the classrooms have interactive whiteboards and we are fund raising so that all our classrooms can have these.

3.    Will you have Experienced and Qualified Teachers for the 6th Form?
All of our 6th Form teachers are qualified or in the process of becoming qualified and have at least 2 years 'A' level teaching experience.

4.    How many Students will there be in a class?
The maximum classroom size in these premises is 30. However, we expect that most of the classes will have less than 15 students.

5.    When will the courses start?
The courses will start in September of each year. AS classes run for 1 year and A2 classes are run in the second year of the A level programme.

6.    What subjects will you offer?

7.    How many subjects will students have to do?
All students must do 3 A/S level subjects plus some enrichment course(s)/programme(s). High ability students may take 4 A/S level subjects. The enrichment programme will be an Islamic based citizenship programme.

8.    How many weeks of study will there be?
There will be 32 weeks of lessons and for each subject there will be 4.5 hours of teaching per week. For subjects with practicals there will an additional 1 hour of study per week.

9.    Do you have any careers guidance?
There is a careers advisor from the local Youth & Connexions service that visits us on our Montagu Road site regularly. In addition, the school organises trips to Universities and some Universities visit our school. Students who have queries about their careers can approach the Headteacher or other staff members for advice.

10.    What grades do I need at GCSE level?
  • Students will be required to have a Grade B in English and Maths
           (or retake English/Maths with us whilst studying A levels)
  • Students will require 6 GCSEs with grades A* - C in one sitting
  • Students who do not make these grades may still enquire about placement in the ACC Sixth Form
