Pastoral Care
Pastoral care is vital because only happy pupils will flourish. As a small school (with 140 pupils in the secondary school) we can afford to place a greater emphasis on care for the individual student than is normally feasible in a standard state school with circa 200 pupils in each year group.
Upon admission, pupils are assigned to one of the four multi-age 'houses' for the duration of their school experience - Dar Fatima, Dar Zainab, Ruqayyah and Dar Umm Kulthum. This encourages them to develop a sense of belonging and school pride - allowing them to make strong bonds with pupils outside their classes. Older pupils are expected to set a good example to younger pupils in their house. The atmosphere in each House is happy and creative.
All the classes work harmoniously in the context of the school as a whole, however each class has its own character and atmosphere which is supported by different teaching styles from our experienced teachers. Friendly competitions are organised between house groups to encourage team work with support of the Head of House.
Head of Houses are senior teachers who are the
first point of contact for pupils and parents if they
have any concerns. The Head of House is responsible
for having an overall picture of the
- Academic Development
- General Progress
- Behaviour and
- General Welfare of pupils.
Pupils have the option of approaching a
number of staff if they experience any
problems/issues or have any concerns e.g
- individual class teachers
- form teacher
- pastoral care coordinator or
- headteacher
