Lunch Time
Children should bring packed lunches to be eaten in the class room. These should be brought in containers clearly labelled with your child's name. We request that all lunch-boxes are the box-type - no backpacks. Please try to provide a balanced meal for your child. (Chocolates and fizzy drinks are not allowed). Drinks should not be brought in glass containers or cans.

Attendance and absences

The School has a legal responsibility to record all absences. If your child is away, please send a note with the returning child to explain the absence. Please inform the school if the absence is likely to be longer than a week. We would prefer you not to make medical appointments (such as dental check ups) during school time, but if this cannot be avoided (such as a hospital appointment) please inform the class teacher before the date of the appointment.

It is important that children arrive at school on time. Lateness may not only upset your child, it may encourage your child into bad time-keeping habits for later in life.

If parents wish to withdraw their child from school for a long period, it may not be assumed that such a leave of absence will be authorised. In such a case the parents should write requesting permission for authorised leave, to the Headteacher.

For the sake of your child, please ensure that attendance is regular and punctual.

We believe that discipline is about helping children to control their own behaviour and to achieve self-discipline. They are encouraged to think of others in their behaviour in the classroom, corridors and playground. Good behaviour is encouraged, whilst poor behaviour is unacceptable. Rules of behaviour have been negotiated with the children, and the reason for those rules are carefully explained.

Discipline

Discipline is necessary for a happy, well-regulated school, where staff and children respect each other and effective learning and teaching take place. We wish each of our children to learn to be kind, helpful, understanding and tolerant of others, and to develop self-discipline, a sense of responsibility and self-confidence. Self-discipline may be one of the aims, but we must help children to achieve this by setting the boundaries of acceptable behaviour.

These are the Rules of Behaviour in our School:

1.We keep our hands, feet ,objects and unkind words to ourselves.
2.We do as we are asked by school staff.

There are certain rules for specific situations:

In the playground:
  • Stay in the playground at all times, unless given permission by the teacher to leave, do not go to your classrooms unless accompanied by an adult.
  • Only sponge balls, skipping ropes, hoppits , books and wax crayons are allowed
  • Play appropriately in the quiet, skipping and running areas of the playground

In the school
  • No toys to be brought to school unless allowed by the teacher
  • Keep the cloakrooms and corridors tidy
  • No sweets unless the teacher gives permission

Unacceptable Behaviour

Occasionally there are instances of unacceptable behaviour. When they occur, the teacher discusses with the child the reasons for the behaviour.
If necessary, some of the following steps may be taken:

1.        A warning look - you behave properly
2.        A quiet word - you behave properly
3.        A  warning (- 2 minutes of Golden Time)
4.        Three warnings, see Headteacher, followed by Yellow report - contact parent/s/carers
5.        Miss 10 minutes of Golden time and playtime.
6.        Red report - very serious
7.        Headteacher decides on future action with parent/s/carers
8.        Serious incidents of misbehaviour are logged.

Nos1-3 for Reception & Yr1 pupils.

Where unacceptable behaviour persists, parents will be invited to discuss the problem with the Headteacher. If the unacceptable behaviour persists despite  using strategies for improvement, a child may be excluded for a definite or indefinite period.
